I hope this message finds each of you doing well. For almost 12 years, we have been partnering with Wonji-Shoa Emmanuel United Church in providing a quality values based education for the children of Wonji-Shoa, Ethiopia. We started with one class for KG students and now serve over 750 students from KG-9th grade.
This award winning school is a lighthouse in the community and has provided holistic empowerment to many children and their families.
Wonji is an at risk community which has faced many challenges over the years. Recently, a government owned sugar processing facility (which was a major job provider), was relocated to another community.
Wonji recently experienced their worst flooding in 20 years. Extensive damage was done in the community and to the school. Attached are photos of some of the damage to the school. The damage includes damage to five classrooms, the wall around the school collapsed in places, 17 computers and other electrical items were destroyed, all the grade one through grade six books were destroyed, as well as other damage.
With the new school year beginning in a couple of months we greatly need your help at this time. We currently need $27,500 USD to repair the damage and to replace items that were destroyed.
