Greetings dear friends!

I hope you are doing well! We had a really amazing day yesterday at the Addis Ababa Youth Rehabilitation/Detention Center! The center houses youth ages 9-16 who are awaiting court dates or who have already been sentenced.

On Wednesday, we finished taking a pilot group of youth from the center through a leadership development curriculum that we use (Habitudes by Growing Leaders). Yesterday, we had a special program to celebrate their successful completion. We brought 40 youth from Berhan Yehun (an after school program that we partner with) and they performed skits, poetry, songs, and choreography. We then handed out certificates of completion to 14 youth. The entire population of youth from the facility were in attendance…about 130.

The director is now asking us to train and mentor their staff as well as to multiply the mentoring groups among the youth.

It was an impactful day. A lot of laughter and some tears as well. I spent a lot of time thinking about what many of these young people have been through. Many of them have been exposed to many harsh and abusive situations in their lives. I am thankful that we have this opportunity to invest in their lives with the hope of them facing a better tomorrow.

Wish I could send some photos but taking photos of the youth from the center is prohibited. I have attached some photos of the youth from the from Berhan Yehun as they are performing.

Please pray for the youth from this detention center. Thanks for helping us make a difference in the lives of the youth of Ethiopia!

Thanks and blessings!
