Why Reach Kiev, Ukraine?

The Ukraine, like many other neighboring countries, suffered terribly at the hands of the Soviets and later Hitler’s murderous hordes.  Millions died, leaving a communist-oppressed remnant living in the darkness of either mysticism or hopelessness.  Mike and Myra Watkins have been a part of several short-term mission trips to that nation and saw the need to start local churches because the fruit of these trips would dissipate after they left.

Kiev is the capital of Ukraine with a population of 2.6 million.  This city is not only the gateway to Russia and Central Asia but also the hub to many businesses and major universities.

The Laborers are few…

When Mike and Myra return to Kiev, Ukraine in August of this year, a couple from Manila, Victor & Gisella Araneta, will join the initial team.  They will assist in outreaches on several of the many universities located in Kiev. Mike & Myra are currently still recruiting others to be both long-term and short-term team members.

A Gateway to the Nations…

The Ukraine has experienced remarkable positive change in the last few years, but Russia and other countries are becoming more restrictive.  Therefore, we believe that this church plant in Kiev will eventually become a base for reaching other more restrictive Russian-speaking nations.
